Worcester Knights 3, Shrewsbury 2: Deegan Miller struck out five over four one-hit innings and Seth Williams closed out the game with 1-1/3 hitless innings as the visiting Knights held off Shrewsbury to advance in the PNJ Playoffs at Tivnan Field.
Luke Delongchamp doubled for Worcester, while Cody Smith and Max LeFrancois each drove in runs as the Knights scored three times in the fifth innings. Worcester will face top-seeded Tatnuck at 8 p.m. Thursday in a semifinal at Tivnan.
Joe Morgan went the distance for Shrewsbury, striking out 13 and allowing three runs (2 earned) on just two hits. Sam Baxter and Joe Morgan each doubled for Shrewsbury.
Double Play 4, Douglas 3: Visiting Douglas rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth, but Double Play starter Mike Breen pitched out of the jam as Double Play advanced in the PNJ Playoffs at Tivnan Field.
Breen struck out 15 and allowed two earned runs on five hits to lead Double Play, which will face second-seeded Grafton at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Tivnan.
Tony Alfonso drove in two runs for Double Play, while Breen, Ryan Lempicki, Seth Larsen and Joe Valone all singled.
Tyler Crandall keyed the rally for Douglas with a one-out triple that scored Eathan McClure and Brayden Michaelson to cut the lead to 4-2. C.J. Willis (2 hits) followed with a single to left to score Crandall. However Breen got out of the jam by inducing a 4-6-3 double play.
