Madison’s Matt Doyle continued his hot play, defeating Darien’s Alex Gu 5 and 4 Wednesday evening to reach the 79th State Junior Amateur final at Watertown Golf Club.
Doyle, a member at Madison Country Club, will face Shelton’s Kyle St. Pierre, who rallied to defeat Jack Bosworth (Hop Meadow CC) in 20 holes, in the 18-hole final Thursday morning.
St. Pierre, who plays out of Newtown CC, had reached the semifinals for the second straight season. He had to win the 18th hole to force sudden death. Bosworth eliminated Aidan Stuart (Madison CC) in the quarterfinals.
Doyle is coming off a victory at the Connecticut Junior PGA Championship on July 1 at Keney Park GC. He won the 36-hole tournament by 10 strokes.
Doyle defeated Ben Boyd (Wampanoag CC) 3 and 2 and Gu defeated Cody Brew (Tumble Brook CC) 4 and 3 in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
