Lisa Paakkonen, who teaches math at Quabbin and played high school golf at Wachusett Regional and collegiate golf at Franklin Pierce University, is the new golf coach, happy to be guiding the Panthers who have jumped to a perfect 4-0 record.
“I’ve been playing golf my whole life, and I’m glad this opportunity came along,” said Paakkonen, who was very pleased with a turnout of 17 players including several from the eighth grade.
“It’s amazing to see all the young kids in our program,” said Paakkonen. “Our goal is, with each day, to be a little bit better than the day before. We really have the best kids on this team.”
Leading the Panthers is senior captain Nick Farrell, along with two juniors Ben Lanier and Connor Geary, who, last Friday in a win over Fitchburg, eagled the fourth hole at Quail Hollow on his way to a medalist round of 2-over-par 38.
Other golfers in the Panthers’ starting lineup include promising eighth-grader Max Doane, junior Trevor Dowgieliwicz and junior Colin Wallace.
