The key to running the best possible high school state tournament is to fashion it best to the individual sport. By the time Eric Burbank scored with 14.6 seconds left Wednesday to lift St. Joseph over New Fairfield in the first round of the Class S tournament, it was reinforced yet again that the CIAC had failed to do this with lacrosse.
Each sport is different, blessed with a variety of differences, some stark, others nuanced, that distinguish it. Those blessings can become curses when making brackets. With lacrosse it has turned absurd.
